About The Appraiser: Joanna Kovacs

Joanna Kovacs is a GIA Graduate Gemologist from New York with 24 years of jewelry experience.  She attended the Gemological Institute of America in New York, NY and after completing the diamonds and diamond grading courses, she received her Graduate Diamonds Diploma.  In 2009, she was featured in the New York State Jewelers Association magazine for being selected as their annual scholarship recipient.  Joanna traveled to Florence, Italy where she completed the Colored Stones Grading Courses, completing her colored stones and colored stone grading requirements and received her Graduate Colored Stones Diploma. She then fulfilled the AJP requirements and became a GIA Accredited Jewelry Professional.  In 2012, Joanna received her GIA Graduate Gemologist Diploma, G.G. She is a Diamond Council of America (DCA) Graduate Diamontologist and Guild Gemologist (DCA).  In 2017, she traveled to Ohio to complete the Heritage Appraisers appraisal training program.  Joanna attended the GIA Headquarters in Carlsbad, California in 2021 and completed the Pearl Grading program, receiving her GIA Graduate Pearls Diploma. In 2021, Joanna also completed the GIA Continuing Education Recognition Program. This year, in 2024, Joanna completed the GIA Continuing Education Introduction To Gemstone and Jewelry Photography program.  After many years of jewelry retail sales management in New York, she worked as a Buyer for jewelry at the JA New York Trade Shows.  

Joanna Kovacs is the owner and President of Raregem Jewelry Appraisal Services, LLC and provides independent diamond and jewelry appraisals in the Scottsdale and Mesa, Arizona area specializing in appraising diamonds, colored stones, new and estate jewelry items, and watches.

Joanna provides independent jewelry appraisal service to many celebrities including daytime TV acting professionals, many musical celebrities including singers, songwriters, composers, producers, sports professionals and politician's family personal jewelry. She provides appraisals for jewelry stores, law offices, insurance companies, estates and local law enforcement agencies. 

She is a professional member of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Alumni Association located in Carlsbad, CA, and a member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers, NAJA. Joanna stays up to date with industry knowledge by completing the GIA Continuing Education certificate programs.

In addition to her background in appraising, Joanna has assisted jewelry stores with her knowledge and experience in jewelry evaluation, website product descriptions, photography, and business listings for website sales and marketing.
